Do you know this situation?
I’m sure we’ve all experienced such a situation and accompanying feeling:
We aspire to achieve something, learn a new skill, or master a particular area of expertise. We eagerly attend seminars and workshops, devour books on the subject, and eagerly incorporate various methods into our lives. Each time, we emerge from these experiences feeling invigorated, empowered, and ready to conquer the world. We believe that from that moment forward, anything is possible. We feel like a completely transformed individual, determined to revolutionize our lifestyle.

Decrease in self-efficacy
However, as time passes, doubt begins to creep in. After just a few days, or perhaps even a few hours or the next day, our initial enthusiasm starts to wane. We find ourselves questioning whether we have the capability to follow through with our plans and ambitions. Eventually, frustration sets in, directed not only at our circumstances but also at ourselves. This sentiment is particularly amplified when we consider the multitude of seminars we’ve attended, the countless books we’ve devoured, and the numerous attempts we’ve made to adopt new habits. In these moments, it may seem as though we haven’t made any progress at all. Yet, this perception is far from accurate. Allow me to present you with a visual representation to illustrate this point:

What does the graphic reveal? As I previously mentioned, many of the seminars and books we engage with provide us with a significant surge of confidence and a transformative shift in our perception. However, it’s not uncommon for us to subsequently experience a sudden downturn, leaving us feeling disempowered. We might catch ourselves thinking: “Yet another failure…” But let me assure you, it’s not a failure. Far from it.
You need many bricks to build a house
You see, each time we embark on these learning experiences, we never return to the same starting point. We always make progress, no matter how subtle it may seem. That’s precisely why it is incredibly important to continue attending seminars, reading books, and persistently striving to integrate new habits into our lives.
Every attempt we make brings us closer to the level of achievement we aspire to reach. It’s through this persistent effort and dedication that we inch ever closer to our goals. Each step forward, no matter how small, is an invaluable part of our journey towards success.
